Season 2026–27: OERSOEP

A passion for the 21st century.

This autumn, NITE and K.O. Brass present Oersoep, a new production directed by Rebekka Nilsson. An interdisciplinary music theatre work about motherhood, the body and ecological crisis — inspired by Bregje Hofstede’s novel of the same name and the St Matthew Passion.

Oersoep follows a woman who becomes a mother, and with that, a question she cannot shake: what does it mean to bring new life into an exhausted world? What follows is a movement outward — away from safety, into the world, through love, loss and numbness.

Drawing on the St Matthew Passion, Oersoep becomes a contemporary ritual: a place to grieve what is lost, and at the same time celebrate the life that remains. With live music by K.O. Brass, whose members previously formed the permanent brass section of The Kyteman Orchestra.

Rebekka Nilsson graduated from the directing programme at the Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2020 and has made work in the Netherlands, Germany and Norway. With Oersoep, she brings together her love of live music and theatre direction for the first time.

Oersoep is based on the novel by Bregje Hofstede, writer and activist, whose previous novel Drift was shortlisted for the Libris Literature Prize.

Oersoep will premiere on October 24th.
